Here are a few questions that are frequently asked by my clients. If you have a question that is not answered here, please don't hesitate to ask.
What is the best age to photograph a newborn baby?
The ideal time for a newborn photography session is between 5-12 days old. After about 2 weeks of age, it becomes harder for the babies to sleep soundly, which allows me to pose them in unique ways. This range can change if a baby is born early, so we can adjust this time frame according to your newborn's needs.
When should I schedule my newborn photo session?
For newborn photography sessions, it is best to book while you are still pregnant. Once you decide to book your newborn picture session, I will add your expected due date to my calendar. After your baby arrives, we will schedule a date for the session. It is important to book early, as I am limited to the number of newborns I can photograph each month. If your baby is already born, please contact me because I may have an opening available.
Are the sessions safe for my baby?
Yes, safety is extremely important! I've been a neonatal ICU nurse for 9 years, so I have a ton of experience handling babies. I'm very good with babies, and I will take every precaution to keep your precious newborn safe. All of my blankets and props are washed between sessions, and I always wash my hands before handling a newborn. I also receive a flu vaccine each year and my Pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine is up to date.
Are parents and siblings included in the newborn photography session?
Yes, I love to incorporate parents and siblings in the infant and newborn photos. If any grandparents are visiting while I'm there, they are welcome to join is as well. There is no extra charge for this.
Where do the newborn photo sessions take place?
All newborn photography sessions take place in the comfort of your own home. No packing and prepping to leave the house, which can be quite a challenge sometimes. But don't worry about making your house spick and span! I remember very well how busy a newborn can be, and some things like keeping a perfect house are put on the back burner. We can also use an outdoor location during the warm months.
How do I prepare for my newborn session?
Newborn session clients will receive a detailed prep guide to help plan and prepare for your session. I will also send you a link to fill out a brief questionnaire to help me prepare and plan your session just for you.
Will I need to supply any props for the newborn session?
I will bring an assortment of blankets, baskets, wraps, hats/headbands, and other props with me. If you have items of your own that you'd like to use, we can certainly incorporate them into the session. I will touch base with you prior to the session to get your preference on colors and style so I can come prepared.
How soon will I see the finished images?
I will email you a link to view your online password-protected gallery within 2 weeks. A sneak peek will be sent to you within a few days. Feel free to share the password with family and friends so they can view the gallery as well. You will be able to view, download, and order prints from the gallery. A print release will be given with the images that you choose.
